General Archives / Springy spring
« on: March 31, 2015, 12:33:35 AM »
I'm pretty sure I was hibernating all winter, that's the only explanation for why I don't remember anything for the last like three months.

Spring is here, and that hopefully means that things are coming back to life. Only not people, because we don't need a zombie apocalypse on our hands. That would be bad.

General Archives / Plots/leaders clarifications for moving forward
« on: January 13, 2015, 08:34:42 PM »
Hi everybody,

Alright, so the forum became a ghost town for a little bit here... Since it's a lull, this is also probably a good time to refigure a bunch of stuff.

To that end, I'm writing up some extra documentation on plots and plot leaders to help us keep things from stagnating, and allowing us to move plots along even when there are a few people missing or busy with real life events. Hopefully this will also mean plots can continue even when it gets slower.

This will mean refiguring some plots to make sure they'll be able to be moved along, but it should help everything run more smoothly in the long run.

Until we have a place for it in the rules or an FAQ, this will serve as the official information:

For plots
  • Plots should be constructed in a way that gives any player the ability to interact with and affect or drive the plot forward. (This means the plot is accessible to any character, and not having the plot only affect or revolve around specific groups of people in the world, ie Court-only plots are not Territory plots.)
  • Plots are malleable and a cooperative effort, and may change over time based on what happens in play. An end goal may be kept in mind, but in-play threads and actions should affect the plot most.
    • Plots that do not currently fit these criteria will be reconfigured so that they do.
  • Inter-Territory plots are also allowed.

On plot leaders
  • Plot leaders are expected to be more than minimally active with their plot characters for the plot they are running.
  • Plot leaders are expected to answer questions and communicate with players regarding the plot they are running in a timely fashion.
  • While the plot leader is expected to move the plot forward, other players should also be able to affect and drive the plot, as well. Plot leaders are not tabletop-style GMs and are expected to allow other players to move the plot along themselves. (Players are expected to let plot leaders know about major shifts in direction or events ahead of time, but are able to take initiative on plot movement when it's in a planned direction.)
  • Plot leaders are taking on the responsibility of running a plot, and they are expected to keep up with the expectations of that position. If expectations are not met, a plot may be reassigned to someone else to run, or may be turned into a personal plot.

On the difference between personal plots and site plots
  • Personal plots revolve around a small number of specific characters, without which the plot cannot function.
  • Site plots may involve any number of characters, any of which are able to move the plot in a direction/affect events and outcomes directly, but which still functions regardless of specific characters involved.

A note on timelines and threads
While we do follow the seasons for a timeline, threads taking place before immediately current plot events are allowed - just note it in the first post of a thread as to when the thread is taking place.

Obviously, we're slow right now. It's going to take a bit to get back up to speed, most likely. I'm hoping that by changing things up we can maybe get going again. We'll have more info on what exactly is happening with plots once we figure out what needs major changes.

If you have any specific questions in the meantime, feel free to contact myself or Willow.

General Archives / Happy New Year
« on: January 01, 2015, 12:01:32 AM »
Happy New Year, everyone.

I know it's been slow for a while around here, but with the holiday craziness drawing to a close, things should start to pick up a little again.

There will need to be some rearrangements made to do so, more than likely, so just keep an eye out for that.

Thank you everyone who has been involved here, and here's to making 2015 a great year.

OOC Center / CharaHub - this is neat!
« on: September 22, 2014, 12:01:01 PM »
I came across this site yesterday - it's really neat!

Check it out - it lets you make character profiles and group them, it's got piles of fun questions for you to answer about them, and you can show connections between them. They can be posted publicly or privately, and you can make up to 100!

Just thought I'd share, since people around here might be interested in something like that. ^^

Kaeleer Archives / We Are All As We Appear

Paperwork. Paperwork, paperwork, and more paperwork. It had doubled in the last few weeks, as the Master of the Guard had begun to order various movements and requisitioned various supplies in anticipation of certain events. Note after note, form after form, signature after signature made their way across the Gray-Jeweled Prince's desk, the ink of his replies hardly dry before they were whisked off to set about whatever messages they carried into motion. It was enough to make anyone's head spin. And so, he found himself pinching at the bridge of his nose with his eyes tightly closed, attempting to drive off the dull ache that had settled in earlier.

Leaning back into the leather chair, Luka tipped his head back from a few moments and let out a sigh. He needed to get out of his office for a while, go stretch his legs. He needed to get some fresh air. Still, maybe another few minutes with his eyes closed would make the headache go away.

After those few minutes, eyes closed and trying to relax, he finally propelled himself out of the chair and out the door. No one stopped him in the halls, for which Luka was thankful. His headache hadn't gone away yet, and his mind was full of plans and contingencies, orders, names, locations... It wasn't strange that his mind was full of such things, but with the addition of the headache it made him jump from one subject to the next without having thought anything through and he still couldn't manage to forget that the ache was there.

He made it to the grounds, and headed in the general direction of the gardens. They were always a good place to just be. It was a place that one could sit and think in peace, it was a place to relax and let oneself unwind. It wasn't something that Luka took advantage of often, however.

As he walked, he noticed a figure coming his directions from the gardens. At first he couldn't quite tell who it was, but a few moments later, he placed the figure. Aaricia's childhood friend, Anthea Maton. Luka wasn't sure what he thought of the woman, yet, having had no real interaction with her besides an introduction. Aaricia seemed to trust her, which in normal circumstances may have been enough to keep Luka from wondering very far, but as things stood with the tensions in the Territory the Master of the Guard was more cautious than usual.

Luka continued on his path, and bowed to the Black Widow as he drew nearer.

"Lady Maton," he greeted. "I hope the day is treating you well."

General Archives / "New" points system - now it's a mod!
« on: September 03, 2014, 11:52:47 AM »
Hi guys - I've got some exciting news! (Well, it's very exciting for me, anyway.)

Instead of staff counting up everyone's posts and having a spreadsheet do all the math for us, then having to manually make the new points sheets every month, we now have a mod installed to keep track of it!

Staff will still be manually adding in points for OTMs and other special things (character creation if applicable, IC actions) and subtracting points when they're used, but all the points accumulated by posting are now automatic - AND everything gets directed to your player account automatically!

What this means:
- You can see your points total on your profile, and under your avatar when looking at topics.
- You don't have to wait a month to see what your totals are.
- You can spend points you have without waiting a month to see what your totals are.
- The thread for spending/redeeming points will still be there, but the thread we've been doing with everyone's totals will likely disappear since everyone has live totals (or possibly be morphed into something else).

If you have any questions about it, please let me know! I'll be giving everyone their current points totals today, so we should be good to go by this evening!

General Archives / The Court will Play while the Steward's away!
« on: August 09, 2014, 12:36:06 PM »
Just a little announcement. :)

Since Willow's going to be really busy with life for the next month or so (BEST OF LUCK WILLOW!!), and she usually takes care of... well, all the little lists and just generally keeps track of everything, I've enlisted Elle's help in filling in for a while to keep me from drowning in trying to keep up with everything Willow usually does.

General Archives / Face Claim changes and other Updates
« on: August 04, 2014, 11:39:31 PM »
Hello everyone,

We’ve got a number of changes coming up here, the first of which is that we are completely revising the face claim system.

We are removing the reservations system on face claims. Claims will now be added to the masterlist upon the character’s acceptance. Sharing is still an option, so long as both parties agree to it; distinctions will be made in the masterlist if necessary (ie, “Scarlett Johansson, blonde” or “Johnny Depp as Jack Sparrow”).

We'll also be working on moving some of the current plots forward and reworking parts of others - we would like input from people on this part! If you're interested in taking a more active role in a plot or have an idea for one, let us know!

On a related note, we'll be opening up another Territory in the near future, so stay tuned for more details on that.

In all of this, there may be some changes to the rules (rewording and consolidation of information), so just keep an eye out for that. If there are any major changes, they'll be noted in an announcement.

As ever, if you have any questions or concerns, feel free to contact me!

General Archives / hideko's annual pilgrimage
« on: May 30, 2014, 04:37:20 PM »
Pretty sure you pretty much all know about this by now but just for... whatever's sake, posting here.

I'll be running off to camp (as usual) as of next Fridayish, June 6th. I'll be at camp until July 20th, but I'll still be reachable during that time. I'll be around, I'll try to post but it'll be less posting from me because I'll be busy herding cats kids. So, business as usual, I just won't be online quite as much as usual. (Well. Debatable. I'll have my computer, it'll have skype up, I just may or may not actually be sitting at it.)

General Archives / Con Weekend!
« on: April 22, 2014, 12:00:46 AM »
Just a head's up, I'll be gone Saturday and probably most of Sunday this week (Apr 27-28) at a con that's in a city about an hour and a half away. If there's wifi I might sneak on at some point, but I won't be able to do much in all likelihood.
